VTCT Diploma in Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the specialist application of essential oils used in a variety of contexts including uplift, relaxation, stress relief and remedial not subject to medical prohibition and connected to palliative care. The critical aspects of this qualification are the decision making concerned with the safe blending of essential oils and their appropriateness in use based upon client assessment. 

 

How long is the course?

The course is run over 8 days 9.30- 5pm

One weekend a Month for four months with a final assessment session set after all course work finished.

 

PLUS:  One day an a monday attached to the first  weekend of the course for Principals and Practice of Complementary therapies and Business for complementary therapies.   This is a compulsory part of  the Aromatherapy, Body Massage and Reflexology courses.

 

 

 

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements apart from a sound understanding of written and spoken English. You will also be required to have a short interview either in person or over the telephone.

However you will be required to covered:

  •  You will be required to be studying or have aquired an  acceptable qualification in Level 3  Anatomy & Physiology . Please note that if you have taken the old D1160 A&P you will be required to up grade in certain areas, namely the pathology and lesser common pathology area. All other areas will be APL for the course. Talk to centre about this.
  •  And  a swedish or body massage qualification taken with a reputable and acceptable awarding body.
If you have not passed a course in this subject that is approved by VTCT for APL. These will have to have been completed before commencing your  Aromatherapy studies . A&P can be studies along side the course.

How is the course taught?
The course is taught through a series of lectures and tutorials, utilising visual learning aids, an interactive smart board and an internet link. Students will also practise treatments upon one another during the practical sessions. There will be two additional practical sessions where students will perform treatments on members of the public. All practical sessions are taught using organic products where ever possible.

What equipment is required for the course?
Students will be required to wear the college uniform of a plain black short sleeved t-shirt (no logos) or black tunic top, black trousers and flat black clean shoes (no open toes).Please note this has to be purchased as a uniform, you cannot wear every day clothes. Students will need to have access to a computer for typing assignments and will need an internet connection with their own email address to enable the distribution of course notes and, importantly, for the submission of assignments. Students will also need pens, notepaper and coloured pencils unless they are working directly onto a laptop. Additionally, students will be required to purchase two recommended course books.

While training you will use the college oils, however you will be required to purchase a kit for your case studies up to £300.  There are 3 kits available: Basic, additional 1 and additional 2. This helps with spreading the cost for students. However you can buy the whole set at once if required.

 

How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed by:

  • Assignments
  • Completed case studies. This consists of 60 treatments each with full consultations and written notes of progress and the final outcome. Self-assessment of your performance is an important and integral part of this process.
  • A Practical Assessment day
  • completed portfolio and assessment book
  • Continuous assessment throughout the course in the form of written assignments
  • one tutorial

all completed assignments, case studies and feedback forms will need to be either printed up and put into folder or saved onto a memeory stick, Cd or card and brought to the centre when you do your final practical assessment.

 

Is there any home study?
Independent study is an essential part of this course and you will be required to do practical and theoretical home study between college sessions.

What qualifications will I gain?
Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be awarded the VTCT Diploma in Aromatherapy and the Health Academics Aromatherapy Diploma.

How much does the course cost?
The cost of the course including handouts and student workbook is £640  Plus £80 for the Monday if you have not carried out the principals and practice and the business units on another course.

 

This includes all  course powerpoint hand outs, tuition, tutorials,  unlimited email access to tuor and principal and assessment fees. 

VTCT assessment book £97   and life VTCT registration fee of £16. This course can be paid in three instalments, please discuss with centre.
Plus Essential oil kit  - this is split into 3 packages to be purchesed either in one or to spread the cost throughout the course.
