This is a very exciting  advanced course  

To be a Level 3 Complementary Therapist it is essential that you can demonstrate competence in dealing with clients, using information for planning treatments and provide such treatments safely and effectively.

With the growing need to a higher level of competence VTCT have designed this wonderful course.

 

This qualification will provide you with the skills to communicate with the client  and plan deliver complementary therapy treatments. You will need a knowledge of anatomy & physiology, pathology and lesser known pathology , consultation techniques and common effects and techniques of massage, aromatherapy, nutrition and reflexology in order to provide complementary therapies to the highest level.

 

This qualification is appropriate for learners wishing for a career in the complementary therapy industry as a multi disciplined therapist. 

Critical aspects of the qualification are to ensure that treatments can be provided which are safe and effective.

  • Principals and practice of complementary therapies(UC30320)
  • Business practice for complementary therapies(UC30321)
  • Health, safety and hygiene for complementary therapies( UC30322)
  • Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology((UC30323)
  • Less common Pathology(UC30324)
  • Prepare for and provide body massage(UC30325)
  • Reflective practise for body massage(UC30326)
  • Provide Aromatherapy -42 essential oils and  18 carrier oils covered(UC30327)
  • Reflective practice for Aromatherapy(UC30328)
  • Prepare for and provide Reflexology(UC30329)
  • Reflective practice for Reflexology(UC30330)
  • Healthy eating and well being for the complementary therapy client(UC303331)

How long is the course?

 

We are running this course in modules making it suitable students who have to travel from further away as well as local student.

 

Each module  is covered mostly over weekends, however there are a few weekdays which we tag onto or before a weekend date.

Please also note that if you already have some of the qualification below you can gain APL(accredited prior learning). Your course will then work out cheaper. You choose how long you want to take. H&S and A&P can be taken as home study or one2 one tutoring at the centre (however there is a little extra cost involved with this of  £200 for 3 days)

 

Days for each module are as follows:

H&S -Either home study or one day at centre

A&P - Either home study or 2 days at centre 

Principals and Practice of  Complementary Health 1/2 day

Lesser known  Pathology - 1 day

Body massage - 6 days

Reflexology - 6 days

Aromatherapy - 8 days

Business - 1/2 day

Reflective practice sessions-  2 day

Nutrition - 5 days

 

 YOU DECIDE WHICH COURSES YOU WISH TO JOIN THROUGHOUT A YEAR OR TWO YEARS TO ACHIEVE THIS PRESTIGIOUS DIPLOMA. After each completed unit you will be able to practice in this discipline. Therefore not having to wait until completing the full year to  two years.

 

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements apart from a sound understanding of written and spoken English. You will also be required to have a short interview either in person or over the telephone. If unsure of your language and written skills we can arrange for a on line test from your home with instant marking. The results can then be discussed and any extra studies in this area can be arranged.

 


How is the course taught?
The course is taught through a series of lectures and tutorials, utilising visual learning aids, an interactive smart board and an internet link. Students will also practise treatments upon one another during the practical sessions and also models that we provide at the centre. What equipment is required for the course?
Students will be required to wear the college uniform of a plain black short sleeved t-shirt (no logos) or black tunic top, black trousers and flat black clean shoes (no open toes). Please note this must be a uniform and not your every day clothes. Students will need to have access to a computer for typing assignments and will need an internet connection with their own email address to enable the distribution of course notes and, importantly, for the submission of assignments. Students will also need pens, notepaper and coloured pencils unless they are working directly onto a laptop. Additionally, students will be required to purchase two recommended course books.
You will also require to purchase for home practical's and Case studies: couch, towels, Essential oil kit, basic oils, reflexology products

 

How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed by:

  • Assignments for each area
  • Completed case studies for each area:
  1. Body Massage - 30 treatments(6X4 or 4X6 Case studies, 2 people back, neck and shoulders only, 2 people back, neck and shoulders in sitting position, 2 full body massage including face)  
  2. Aromatherapy- 60 treatments(6 clients x 6 treatments Case studies plus 6 clients relaxation treatment only , 6 of varying ages for various conditions, 12 compresses, inhalations, oil blends) 
  3. Reflexology -100 treatments -( 5 clients X 6 times Case studies full treatments, 4X5 or 5X4 hand Reflexology sessions, 26 full treatments) Note this amount is now in line with new requirements from September 2010 for all Reflexology courses
  4. Nutrition- 12 consultations (minimum of 2 each for 10 clients, plus two more)
  5. BODY MASSAGE,AROMATHERAPY AND REFLEXOLOGY IS PRACTICALLY ASSESSED BY PRACTICAL OBSERVATION AND KNOWLEDGE EVIDENCE. A TASK BASED CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT SET BY VTCT AND TAKEN UNDER INVIGILATED CONDITIONS, MARKED INTERNALLY AND SAMPLED BY VTCT AND THEIR MULTIPLE CHOICE PAPERS OF 25 QUESTIONS  FOR H&S  AND 35 QUESTIOSN FOR  A&P
  • Completed portfolios and assessment book
  • Continuous assessment throughout the course in the form of written assignments, worksheets, oral questions, presentations and blending of oils
  • Three tutorials

Is there any home study?
Independent study is an essential part of this course and you will be required to do practical and theoretical home study between college sessions.  You should set aside 6- 9 hours a week for study.


What qualifications will I gain?
Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be awarded the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies and the Health Academics in Complementary Therapies Diploma.


HOWEVER YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PRACTICE IN EACH AREA AFTER COMPLETING EACH FULL QUALIFICATION OF EACH SUBJECT.

 

How much does the course cost?

£3435.00 tHIS CAN BE PAID MONTHLY BY STANDING ORDER OR IF PAID IN ONE PAYMENT IT CARRIES A 5% DISCOUNT( there is an extra charge of £200 for attending centre for the H&S and the A&P)
